You know those commercials where the side effects are worse than the actual cure that the medicine does? Well I sure do, and I find it rather hilarious, so I made a list of 5 of those drugs and listed the (one) cure, and the numerous ridiculous side effects for each one. One even has a side effect of what the drug is supposed to be curing!

1. Celebrex
   
   Helps: Arthritis
   Side effects:
   1. May increase chances of heart attack or stroke, which may lead to death. This risk increases if you have heart disease or risk factors for it such as high blood pressure.
   2. Increases chances of serious skin reactions.
   3. Increases chances of stomach and intestine problems, such as bleeding ulcers (“crater like holes in the stomach“), which can occur without warning and may cause death. Patients taking aspirin and the elderly are at an increased risk
2. Lipitor
   Helps: Lowers bad cholesterol 39%-60%
   Side effects: The commercials do a good job of avoiding having to mention the side effects (and there’s a lot!) by simply stating that you should ask your doctor. I, however, saw through this and looked up the side effects and the results were numerous. Just to list a few (full list here),
   1. Muscle pain
   2. Joint pain
   3. Memory Loss
   4. Last but not least, “it is possible for a person to experience some Lipitor side effects, including diarrhea. In fact, diarrhea appears to be one of the more common side effects of Lipitor.”

   Yikes!

3. Norvasc
   Helps: High blood pressure
   Side effects (complete list):
   1. Headaches
   2. Weight gain
   3. Depression
   4. And the punchline IS! Norvasc may cause Erectile Dysfunction.
4. Nexium
   Cures: Heartburn relief
   Side effects: I think this video just about sums it up (complete list)
   
5. Nasonex
   Cures: Nasal Congestion
   Side effects (complete list):
   1. Headaches
   2. Coughing
   3. Nosebleeds
   4. Now this is just perfect! Nasonex, the drug that cures nasal congestion, has a side effect of viral infections, including the COMMON COLD, and also SINUS INFECTIONS! Are you joking me!

If you ask me, this is pure comedy. I’m surprised there hasn’t been a parody as a super bowl commercial. Speaking of parodies, here’s one I found on youtube. Be warned: It gets rather gruesome at the end.
